Big village of Tsakonia that keeps its tradition unchangeable.
It is in a distance of 6km from Astros on the way to Leonidio, it is constantly increasing its population and its touristic development with under construction it is full of olive groves and citrus trees.
The visitor can find rented rooms, tavernas, restaurants, beaches with crystal-clear water and suitable for water sports.
The village is called “entrance gate” to the villages of Kastri, since you can visit Kastanitsa, Prastos from there, as 5km outside the village starts the gorge of Zarbanitsa.
The visitor can see the ruins of ancient Athini, the monastery of Orthokostas dedicated to the Annunciation of Virgin Mary and a tall tower and the stone made bridge to Vrasiati river.
In the village celebrations and festivals all year round.
The port of Ayios Andreas
Picturesque port in a distance of 3km from the village with a view to Mirtoo Pelagos. Clean beach for all activities.
The port does not have touristic development and offers relaxation and peace. The first beach has pebbles and stones and it is the children’ s favourite, and crossing the river there is a second beach with pebbles and transparent water and an incredible, deserted windmill inside the water.
The area is known to the sport lovers, because of the winds, as south oh the port there is a rocky coast suitable for fishing. Next to the sea, there is “the island of agios Andreas”, where you can see the ruins of a wall that belonged to the ancient town Athini, according to the archaeologists.
Parts of the outside ground with towers of 4-5th century, are rescued. Later the town was transferred closer to the sea, where postroman ruins are rescued and fortification from Byzantine times. Near the castle, there is rescued half destroyed a stonemade bridge.
